Artist: Shirley Zhang
Size: 22.00cm( 8.66 inches) x 29.00cm (11.41 inches) on the Silk
Completed Time: Feb 8, 2013
Remarks:
This is my 782nd painting since 2003and the 423rd Chinese Xieyi Painting, also it is the 177th assignment that I have completed in Chinese National Academy of Arts .

This is the 23rd painting of a series stories 《二十四孝》: Er Shi Si Xiao Tu -- The Twenty-Four Dutiful Children . I painted it by learning from Mr. Ren Bonian.

The story names 庚黔娄尝粪忧心 - Geng Qianlou Chang Fen Xiu Xin -- Geng Qianlou Tasted His Father's Excrement and Worried about His Health:

Geng Qianlou lived in the Southern Qi Dynasty (479-502), he was the county magistrate of Zhan Ling County (In today's Jingzhou, Hubei Province).

After he reached the county for less than 10 days, one day, suddenly he felt that his heart beat and the sweat blew on his back so that he guessed that something bad had happened to his family members. At once, he resigned his official position and went back home.

When he received his home, just knew that his father had been sick for 2 days. A doctor said to him that “If you wanted to know the state of the illness of your father, you could just taste his excrement. If it was bitter taste, that would be the good sign” Then, Geng Qianlou tasted the excrement of his father, and found the taste was sweet. He worried about his father so much, so that he fell down to the Big Dipper and begged for replacing his father to be dead.

In few days, his father was dead, he buried him and stayed by his father's grave for mourning him for 3 years.

When I painted this painting, I did feel that my heart was touched so much, so that I painted every line with the most carefully...

How do you think of my new painting? Do you enjoy it?

I really hope that my effort will be some help with you to learn Chinese culture and art.
